Clinic Descriptions:

*************************************************************************************************************************The Warriors Way: Understanding the learning process through falling, with Arno Ilgner

Being effective as a coach, instructor, or guide requires us to understand how the learning process works and to create appropriate situations for clients. Doing this allows us to help clients problem solve, minimize frustration, and enhance overall satisfaction. That means returning clients. This clinic uses falling to teach how to create such situations. You’ll learn how to fall and how to create appropriate  learning situations.

Clinic process: We’ll do discussions and falling exercises to experientially learn how to fall and to create appropriate learning situations.  Equipment needed: harness, shoes, belay device, helmet, rope and draws (if you have them).

*************************************************************************************************************************Multi-Pitch Transitions, with Karsten Delap

This clinic will look at rope management of one and 2 followers as well as techniques to move faster in multi-pitch terrain in up and down scenarios.
Students need: single rack, typical multi-pitch anchoring setup (ie: cordelettes, lockers, plaquette device…) and your basic
gear wouldn’t hurt either (shoes, harness, helmet, etc.).

*************************************************************************************************************************

The Mindful Mountain Guide: Techniques For Managing Stress in a High Stakes Environment, with Larry Goldie

Guiding is a stressful occupation.  As guides we need strategies to help us cope with the stresses we encounter on challenging days (and/or guides exams!)   We will look at various strategies for managing stress and keeping it together when it feels like the wheels are falling off.

Participants should bring their war stories, open minds and personal ideas for techniques that have worked well for them that they are willing to share.

*************************************************************************************************************************

Arc’teryx Advantage Clinic, with James Bronson

For 20+ years Arcteryx has been pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. By implementing simplistic designs, innovating new construction techniques and developing new textiles Arc’teryx has changed the way we interact with the natural world.  At the Arcteryx Advantage Clinic we will discuss some of these innovations and look at how these changes affect the way we work and play in the mountain environment.

    • Hey Bill, great question. Unfortunately, we’re not taking registration for clinics. Reason being, is that in the past, people sign up for them, and don’t attend, which means other people could have taken that spot. For the clinics that have limitations, please show up about 15-20 minutes early. For the Warriors Clinics, there are 4 sessions being offered, so we hope to accommodate everyone. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about this. Thanks!

    • No Amy, so sorry on this. A bit backed up here in the office. We have tons more coming. All info will be posted by Sept. 1. I hope this will give people enough time to schedule their weekend. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions. 303.271.0984 ext. 2#
